Bridging Technology and Sustainability: Insights from the Sustainability and Climate Change Conference 2025

The Sustainability and Climate Change Conference took place on the 29th of April 2025 for two days at The Ravenala Attitude Hotel, Balaclava. Major stakeholders from Governmental bodies, public and private sectors came together to discuss climate challenges.

The conference was officially opened by Dr Arvin Boolell, the Minister of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries , to discuss about how technology can act as a catalyst towards sustainability.

One of the significant points of the conference was a panel discussion on Digital Sustainability, moderated by MACCS’s CEO, Mr. Charansingh Dabeesing. The Minister of Information and Technology, Hon. Dr. Avinash Ramtohul and other key industry leaders were among the panellists present. They deep dived into discussing the impacts of digital technologies such as energy, e-waste, and carbon emissions on the environment. Panellists also discussed on how corporate responsibility initiatives supported by government policies and regulations, contribute to sustainable digital practices in Mauritius.

The conference brought forth the urgent call for all stakeholders from governments to communities to utilize technology in a responsible manner for a sustainable Mauritius and MACCS made it a priority to actively contribute to that discussion.
